Not sure what to put as a thread title for July, if anyone else thinks of something great feel free to change it.
I don't always agree with the writing content of Orson Scott Card; but I have great respect for his writing skill.

This seems like a good July thread, Mike. Patriotic and appropriate.
CreateSpace is a site (part of Amazon) that has tools to help with self-publishing. It does have pay for services like editing and others to help writers as well. A good percentage of LDS writers I notice are publishing through this venue. I think the idea of self-publishing is growing. I think it is a good way to publish something like a memoir or biography or self help that may be intended for a specific audience anyway. I know self publishing means you do your own promoting and marketing, but many smaller traditional publishers (those in the LDS market and elsewhere) are asking authors to be more involved in this. I am having some people in my ward read the story about my GG grandfather and based on their reaction and feedback I may submit it to a traditional LDS publisher, but it is one that I am thinking of using CreateSpace for.
I can't comment on Brother Card because I haven't read his fiction. Some of his columns in Deseret News I've enjoyed however. Has anyone read Jason F. Wright? What do you think of him?

I've read a little (ok my wife has read a little to me) from Jason F. Wright (Christmas Jars and Wedding Letters). I like his work. He's one of my Facebook acquaintances.
Have a great Independence Day all.

A couple other LDS writers I like are Clair Poulson and Gregg Luke.
Just wanted to say "hi" to all of you - Gary, Sachiko, T. Lynn, Mike and Paul - and anyone else who happens to stop in for a visit. If your not part of our little group open up an account and say "hi".
On July 4 my new book, Culpability and Absolution, was released. Right now it is just available on Amazon. My publisher is currently formatting it for all e-readers. It should also soon be available for order from brick and mortar stores soon.
Hope everyone is well and enjoying the warm (sometimes hot) summer.

Charlie, good to hear from you. Glad to hear about your success in getting your new book released. That's great. I need to get some kind of e-reader one of these days. I didn't know you went by Joshua Berry as a pen name. Or is that your real name and Charlie is just a user name? Anyway, my wife had baby number six yesterday. 9lbs 13oz and 22 inches long. Baby's name is Clay Lenard Wright. "Clay" was a name we just liked. "Lenard" is my father's name. Baby and mother are doing great.

Mike, first congrats!! on your new family addition. So glad your wife and son are doing well. My grandson's first birthday is today so I'm excited as well for that. I had a couple reasons for choosing to publish using a pen name. First, I felt Charles Moore (my given name) may be too commonplace. Second, I chose Joshua Berry to honor two ancestors (GGG grandfather, Joshua Teague and GGGG grandfather Francis Berry), I simply combined the two. Thanks for asking. You can go to www.authorjoshuaberry.com is you'd like more info on the new book ... and about me.

Congratulations Mike on #6. Glad to ehar everyone is doing well.
Congratulations Charlie for your book, Culpability and Absolution, being released. What is the genre? And who is the target audience?
I'm still grinding away on my query letter. I just can't seem to get it right, but after reading a couple of good query writing guides, I think I'm getting closer.
However, I'm wondering if maybe the query critique sites on-line are more there just to tear your query apart and really aren't there to help. I'm beginning to think that may be the case. Everything I try gets shot down.

So, are you Joshua Berry? It looks like he has a lot of books published.

Paul, I am not Joshua Berry. It is a pen name I use and most of the things I have published are using that name. Many of what you probably saw are .99 cent short stories I wrote several years ago. I have two novels written as Joshua Berry, Andrea's Dream and Culpability and Absolution. Incidentally, my new book is spotlighted on newldsfiction.com (backdated to July 4, the release date, so you have to click previous two or three times to get to it). Hopefully some people in the LDS community will see it be interested. www.newldsfiction.com/culpability-and-absolution-joshua-berry/Charlie

Well, that's what I meant. Your pen name is Joshua Berry. I had not idea you've published so many things. Congratulations on your new one, Culpability and Absolution. I'll look for it in Seagull or Deseret Book.

I am not sure if it is available through brick and mortar stores yet. Both Seagull or Deseret Book would most likely have to order it for you. It does have a good story of forgiveness I think people will enjoy. It hasn't started out of the gate at a full gallop (sells, that it), but maybe it will pick steam if people start to read it and like it. Either way, I won't give up my day job any time soon.

I've wanted to sell my books and be able to give up on my day job for over 20 years, but I just can't seem to get there. Your novel sounds a bit like mine with the theme of forgiveness embedded.
Good luck with yours.
