It wasn't that I "liked" reading. It was all i did. I was raised in a "conservative" home (that is British understatement). No TV, no movies, pre-computer, no dancing, etc. Not always a happy place, reading was a much happier thing to do, in fact about the only thing to do, besides boy things, for which one usually got in trouble.
I literally walked to the library almost every night (about a mile away). I basically read my way through the aisles and stacks. Small town, small library, but it took me most of my youth to finish. But you are right, the books I remember are the guy books. Far too many to list.
I also read the Old Testament when I was ten. I'm not sure why my Mom thought movies were a sin but reading the Old Testament was fine for a young boy. Have you read that book?!
Several years ago, when my children were young, I read the Book of Mormon through looking for insights into being a Father. I concluded that the Book of Mormon is definitely a guy book.
I don't know if I have ever thought about being a guy writer, or writing a guy book. I just write. I suppose that is what women do also. Which, by the way, where are Sachiko and T. Lynn. Are we intimidating them. Hard to imagine either of those two being intimidated by just a couple of "guys".
Oh, here is an intersting turn of events on my end. I just recieved a letter asking me to sign a contract with the newspaper. The contract makes it clear that I am not an employee, just a part-time correspondent. I cna understand the need for that. Then it also says that THEY OWN THE COPYRIGHT TO MY WORK. Not going to happen! So I may be out of my column gig soon.
